Jewish Committee for Safety and Security Mission Statement Fair Lawn, New Jersey has become a home to thousands of Jews in the last thirty years. Congregations of all denominations have flourished as men and women from across the country have moved here to raise their children. Many secular Jews have come as well, and a diverse community of families, singles, and seniors has developed within a premier suburb of the state. Since 9/11, every municipality in New Jersey has been forced to upgrade its safety and security capability. New concerns about terrorism have merged with the "old" problems of bias incidents and conventional crime. Homeland Security procedures have been developed, and local law enforcement measures have been expanded. The Jewish community has a unique role to play in making Fair Lawn more safe and secure. Our brethren across the globe -especially in Israel - have had to combat terrorism, and have developed procedures that can serve as models for our own community here. As a people we have a solid commitment to freedom and liberty - those values for which America is under attack. The town of Fair Lawn must realize that its Jewish community is a powerful resource for post 9/11 planning. To channel this resource it needs to create an environment in which Jewish individuals and groups can share our knowledge and commitment, and help the overall town adopt a new higher standard for safety and security. The bar of intolerance towards hate and bigotry must be raised, and other standards must be set that promote cooperation and teamwork among the town's religious and ethnic groups. The mission of the JCSS is to help the Jewish residents of our town do our share in making Fair Lawn more safe and secure - and in the process make America strong enough to meet the dire challenges of the post 9/11 world. Objectives of the JCSS: * to catalyze communal action on bias crimes and incidents against both Jews ands other ethic and religious groups in town * to assist the local law enforcement authorities in distributing crime-fighting tips and updates to Jewish residents - especially to target groups such as business owners and seniors * to help all Synagogues and other communal buildings, as well as all Jewish residences and workplaces, upgrade their safety and security precautions against all emergencies including potential terror attacks Advisors: Officer Glen Callons, Fair Lawn Police Department Etzion Neuer, NJ Regional Director, Anti-Defamation League Delegates: Marvin Feil, Rich Felner, Michael Glass, Debby Kobrin, Rabbi Michael Rosenzweig, Jerry Schranz Executive Director: Steve Kobrin Committees: Outreach to Jewish groups in Fair Lawn Rabbi Michael Rosenzweig Inter-faith relations Rabbi Michael Rosenzweig Neighborhood security Marvin Feil, Jerry Schranz Synagogue security Rich Felner, Mike Glass
