Derek Bastinck, Supervisor Community Policing and Traffic Unit 201-796-1400 "Every citizen can be an extra pair of eyes and ears." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ River Road theft ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9-12 Theft- A Fair Lawn resident reported that their purse was stolen while eating lunch on River Road. Victim stated that she left the eatery without her purse and later returned and could not find her purse. A total of $275 dollars of cash and personal belongings were taken. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fair Lawn Recreation Center fire ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9-12 Fire Report- Officer Paul Donohue observed thick black smoke coming from the construction site of the new Fair Lawn Recreation Center. Upon further investigation he found the tar kettle to be fully engulfed in flames. Officer Donohue radioed for the Fire Department/Engine #1 which extinguished the fire ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fern St bicycle theft ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9-12 Bicycle theft- A resident of Fern St reported that their bicycle was stolen from their backyard. Resident stated that they parked their bike in the back and then realized it was missing 2 days later. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Berdan Ave car burglary ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9-12 Burglary Garage/Van- A resident of Berdan Ave reported that an unknown person entered their garage, then went into their van and removed cash from a pocket book. Actor stole $142.00 dollars from the purse. Police are investigating. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fair Lawn resident bank fraud ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9-10 Attempted Fraud- A Fair Lawn resident reported that a “friendly male” called and advised them that someone was after their checking account. The report further states that the victim gave the caller the number on the bottom of their checking when the man on the phone asked for it. The caller then stated that the resident should cancel the check and that she would be receiving $500 dollars in the mail in two weeks. Feeling suspicious the resident called their bank which then cancelled the account. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fair Lawn Athletic Club weapon possession ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9-10 Possession of Weapon- Police arrested Ralph W. Burton Jr 23 year old male for possession of Brass knuckles. Police were notified about a possible fight at the Fair Lawn Athletic Club. Upon arrival two parties were involved in a verbal dispute. As one of the parties was preparing to leave Police witnessed Mr. Burton drop brass knuckles on the ground. Officer Krizek charged Mr. Burton with 2C:39-3e Poss. Of a Weapon/Brass Knuckles a crime of the fourth degree. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Philip St vandalism ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9-10 Criminal Mischief- A resident of Philip St reported that their vehicle had sustained damage by an unknown actor. According to the report unknown party threw eggs at the vehicle as well as scratched the drivers side with an unknown object. Police are investigating ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Broadway vehicle stop ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9-10 Vehicle Stop/Service for other Departments- Fair Lawn Police was alerted by Hackensack Police that a Black Honda was traveling Rt 4 West at a high rate of speed with no lights on. Officer Robert Belbol then spotted the vehicle traveling on Broadway and stopped it in the area of 27th St. Driver then explained that he was driving at a high rate of speed because he was afraid. Officer Belbol charged the driver with several complaints to be heard in Court on another date. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Broadway car theft ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9-7 Motor Vehicle Theft- Jack Daniels Motors on Broadway reported that a 2006 Audi color white, 4dr was stolen from their parking area. Police are reviewing videotapes of the lot in hope to identify the actor. Detectives are investigating. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Kenneth Ave car burglary ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9-8 Theft from Vehicle- A resident of Kenneth Ave reported that some one entered their vehicle and removed $80 dollars in cash and other personal belongings. Police are investigating. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fair Lawn Resident credit fraud ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9-7 Fraud- A Fair Lawn resident came to Police Headquarters and reported that some one had opened a credit card in his name. The credit card company contacted victim that some one had opened an account and charged over $2000 dollars. Police are investigating. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fair Lawn Resident credit fraud ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9-7 Fraud- A Fair Lawn resident reported that his SEARS credit card account was re-opened and purchases were charged for over $2,700 dollars. Victim was notified by SEARS financial and then reported the incident to Police. Police are investigating. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fair Lawn High School vandalism ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9/4 Forcible Entry/Criminal Mischief- Fair Lawn Detectives investigated an incident of Forced entry the Fair Lawn High School Sasso field press box. According to the report actors gained entry by breaking the entry door. Once inside the press box the juvenile actors wrote on the walls with magic marker. Detective Corcoran investigated and revealed that three Fair Lawn juveniles were responsible for writing bias/ anti Semitic statements on the walls. More damage was found to the tent by the snack stand as well as the Recreation construction site. Charges pending against four juveniles who will be scheduled for Superior Court in Hackensack. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Banta Place criminal mischief ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9-1 Criminal Mischief- Police are investigating three reports of Criminal Mischief to Scholastic School Buses on Banta Place. Unknown actor/actors entered the buses and sprayed the fire extinguisher inside the bus. Also an unknown party broke a rear window of one of the buses. Any one with information about this incident please call Det Jeff Welsh of the Fair Lawn Police Department. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ River Edge, Paramus, and River Vale attempted kidnapping ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9/5 Monday 9/05/05 at approximately 6:20 pm two girls (12 years old) were approached. The adult witness describes a gray van (unknown reg?) with the word “STONE” on the side driving along the curb line. Van driver motions to the girls through the open window for them to come to the van. Driver is described as a White Male 30-40 years old with light colored curly hair. Girls ignored him and van sped off. Similar incidents have occurred recently in Paramus and River Vale. Any citizen witnessing suspicious behavior is encouraged to call 911 or your local Police Department. License Registration information along with any other details is important when reporting any incident.
